Cooking at the Southern FM Café!
“Ollie in the Kitchen” helps young people with one of lifes most important and fun skills - cooking. As well as cooking healthy and tasty food for the other young people in the drop-in, the young people can also work towards catering qualifications.
Last year, to celebrate 25 years the Southern FM charity Help a Local Child awarded £25,000 to the Young People's Centre to open the Southern FM Cafe:
“ The Young People's Centre supports vulnerable children who haven't had the best start in life. We are now going to help them get some catering qualifications and help cook much needed meals for one another. ”
“ Thank you for doing such great work, you came over on thursday and saw what your money was spent on (i was the one cooking) thanks again for all the work you put in we all appreciate it. ”
“ I am one of the people who go to the YPC and it is one of the best places, loads of people go there and it is not bad. ”
“ I have visited the Young Peoples Centre many times over the last few years and each time am impressed with the warm atmosphere and positive work that is being done with oftan limited resources. The cafe will be a huge asset to the centre and to young people in the area, and make the YPC an even more brillinat place to be. ”
“ I understand that the Young People's Centre does some amazing work and provides lots of opportunities for people from across the community to work with young people through volunteering. Good luck with the cafe! ”
“ The Young Peoples Centre thoroughly deserve this grant, the Young People of Brighton & Hove benefit greatly from them and will now have the opportunity to gain catering qualifications and experience thanks to Southern FM. THANK YOU Southern FM for giving the Young People of Brighton & Hove this chance ”
